WASTEWATER TREATMENT AND REUSE PLANT

The design-build contract for Doha West is worth USD 180 million and the plant operation contract totals USD 80 million, for a total amount of USD 260 million. Awarded by the Public Works Authority in 2006.

This is a 135,000 m3/day wastewater facility, the first in the Middle East to use tertiary treatment with ultrafiltration membranes. All the treated water will be used for farm irrigation after the commissioning late 2008.

For an estimated population of 500,000 inhabitants, this plant’s design includes a primary treatment, activated sludge as a secondary treatment and a tertiary treatment using sand filtration and UF membranes.
